Kuala Terengganu - Pulau Perhentian 02

Second Day of Perhentian Island
Woke up at 8.30am to make sure we made it for the 10.00am snorkeling trip. The trip cost RM40 per person (equiptment included) 10.ooam-4.00pm. Good deal, I suppose. We went to a total of 6 places and a fishing village in Perhentian Besar to eat lunch .

Perhentian - Snorkeling
Saw a couple of sharks, nice reefs and loads and loads of fishes. Truthfully, the reefs were not as beautiful as it once was (when I was 12 years old) but it is still nice.
Almost saw a turtle, however my bladder too full to put in real effort, all I could think of was a lunch break for the toilet. Many people advised me to use the sea, its harder than you think to release in public! (ok, too much information)
Back to topic, my sister brought a loaf of bread for our breakfasts on the island. Unfortunately an animal (squirrel/rat) or insect, ate through the plastic and attacked the bread, leaving a hole. The fishes benefited from our lost, it was a large loaf! And Gardenia, no less.
Mystery Point was by far the best and most colorful snorkeling spot, there were a few idiots who were standing on the rocks & corals (it was near the surface) and took photos.
As if it wasn't bad enough that the previous spots we went to all had dead corals, they decided to make sure Mystery Point would be a dead coral reef as well!
Perhentian - Dinner
Completely exhausted and happy by the end of the snorkeling trip, we headed back to the hotel to rest, freshen up & change.
Then head out for dinner, we found out that there was this relatively new restaurant beside Panaroma Chalet, called Ooh La La (not sure of the spelling) that served great food at reasonable prices!
It was a awesome place, something out of a magazine, you would not even know it was a restaurant unless someone told you it was. I did not see a signboard, anyway. And it did not even have its own menu, just a chalk board with a few dishes written on it. Totally quaint!
The steak was RM18 per plate! So much more worth it than the RM10 ice creams! The steak was of fine dining standards, would easily cost over RM30 in KL.
And the dessert, apple pie, WAS TO DIE FOR! Mat Sallehs as waiters, we had wonderful service! No attitude from them!
It was by far the best meal in the Perhentian Island we experienced.
Could not take a good photo of the place as I did not have my tripod and it was already dark when we arrived. But it had a nice ambiance.
Perhentian - Ooh La La Dinner
Hung out for a while, played some cards, chit chat a little & then decided to head back to the rooms to rest for an early day tomorrow. Found out the Mat Salleh waiter & chef is just over there temporarily, for 3 months.
So meaning the service & food quality might change depending on who takes over.
Hopefully not racist, horny locals.
Perhentian - Pub
Along the beach there are some pubs set up right on the beach for you to enjoy the breeze, moon light, loud music & some fiery entertainment.
Did not stop at those places though. Too many mosquito, but it seem like fun if you wanna get high with friends on the beach.

Kuala Terengganu - Pulau Perhentian 01

This is a 3 day 4 night trip. (2 nights on the bus) 24th June - 27th June 2010
Took a bus (Mahligai Express) from Putra Bus Station to Kuala Besut Jetty at 9.30pm Thursday Night.
It stops right in front of the Kuala Besut Jetty, where the boat takes you to the Perhentian Islands.
It is usually RM70 for a two way trip, but manage to find a person who charges RM60 per person for a two way trip. The company is Perhentian Trans Holiday Sdn Bhd. Additional RM5 per person is needed for Marine Park Entrance Fee was needed though (Compulsory for all)
Decided beforehand to be walk in guest, rather than do any booking and hopefully get cheap rooms. Did not go quite as planned though.
I packed all my electronics into pastic bags and sealed them with fire (extreme, I know) but I had lost my handphone to Perhentian seas before, I was not going to sacrifice my new handphone and my precious DSLR as well.
Arrive at Perhentian Kecil, Long Beach at about 8.30am. Walked up and down the beach to look for rooms. Much to my horror, they were all fully booked!
Luckily, Mohsin Chalet still had rooms, and we took it. Not a moment too soon, it became fully booked by that afternoon. I guess I did not think that it would be peak season now as the school holidays were over, but it was.

Paid RM130 per room, per night. Each room housed 2-3 people. (No aircon & water heater) I did not feel the need for aircon or heater though, taking bath after at hot day, the cool water was refreshing on my sunburned skin & the cool sea breeze was certainly enough at night.
I was hoping to get one of the Guest House rooms for RM60-90. But Mohsin Chalet was a pleasant enough place to stay.

We were greeted with warmth & smiles, I really like the people there, everyone seemed so happy.

Right beside the reception is the restaurant for Mohsin Chalet, and it had this wonderful view as it was on a slope! The Ramli Burger there was ok (it was RM9 though - But that is normal Perhentian price) But not awesome. Most of the food are not awesome. Except for this small little restaurant called Ooh La La (not sure if its the right spelling - Will elaborate further, later)

I was quite satisfied with the room, though not everyone was as lucky. The toilets in the other rooms were not as clean as ours. We were also lucky, as Mohsin Chalet was fixing their pumps during that weekend and needed to keep the electricity running the whole day (Usually electricity stops during the day time & comes back on at 6.30pm) Since TJ was not feeling well, he was able to go back to the room to sleep comfortably with the fan on.

RECOMMENDATIONS : Later on, I found out that the newly renovated Rock Garden Chalets were available! Only RM90, and newly built, so everything was still nice! It was too to moved though, we already paid in full.

Had an awesome time playing in the water, on the beach. Even rented the canoe for a couple of hours, 2 canoes for 2 hours - RM90.
We even rented an umbrella for RM10 (I despaired at the thought, but it was too hot to lay unprotected on the beach)

I also felt unhappy that there were no hammocks in the beach. BEACHES ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE HAMMOCKS!
I wonder how much they would charge for the usage of the hammocks had they installed some. It would have been brilliant to be able to sleep under a cool shade of the tree, swinging to the sea breeze on a hammock. I will endeavor to visit a beach with hammocks next. Perhaps a trip to a foreign beach next time.

Cropped this photo out from another photo. Forgot to take a good photo of this terrible place to warn you. DO NOT GO THERE! DANEILA CAFE IS A HORRIBLE RESTAURANT. (My personal experience & opinion, of course. )
The service is not only slow (same to almost everywhere we went on the island) but they were rude to MALAYSIAN people! Perfectly friendly to foreigners, though. If they let us pay less, I doubt if I would be so bothered. However, we're paying the same amount, I do not see why we get attitude from them.
I did see them being nice to some locals though. It was a table of bikini babes (different Malaysian races, but all female) So they are not only racist, but horny racist!
Unfortunately, they are the only cafe selling ice-creams, sundaes & fried ice-cream (Everything is over-priced there). However, I boycotted them the next day by buying an over priced Cornetto ice-cream from another shop beside Matahari Chalet.

After dinner, we walked to the other side of the Long Beach and onto the jetty and saw some amazing lights.

In various shutter speeds.

Awesome, right? I wonder how cool it would be to ride this stuff.. I, who do not know how to ride a bicycle should be able to ride it? Perhaps.
Bukit Gambang Water Park
This family really looks like they were dressed for an advertisement shoot for the resort. Very supportive-Resort T-shirts. :)
Entry to the Water Park is RM19.90 (promotional price, might change) for adults. It was not included in our room package, so we did not go in. Did not have time to enjoy it, why waste the money.
Found a nice spot to take a photo of the Water Park though.
